World Hip Hop Market stages first show in Atlanta
World Hip Hop Market, one of America’s premier promotions companies for global urban music, will stage the first show in its ongoing international concert series in Atlanta on Friday, May 6th.
The exciting kick off show will bring four exceptional groups from across North America to showcase hip hop in three languages. Toronto’s Eternia and the band will headline the show that will also feature Mexican underground legend Bocafloja, the Belgian-Cogoloese-American duo The reMinders, and Aussie/American (and Machester, UK resident) Baba Israel.
The show, dubbed simply “World Hip Hop Market”, will take place at the Apache Cafe in midtown Atlanta on Friday, May 6th. The doors open at 8 pm and the show starts at 9 pm. Tickets for the 18 & up show are $20 available at the door or online through Ticketweb.
Eternia is the twice-Juno nominated Toronto emcee who blasted into the stratosphere in 2010 with “At Last”, with producer Moss. Her critically acclaimd album – released by Fat Beats Records – not only displayed her hardcore lyrical skills but touched on personal and sometimes taboo subjects such as sexual assualt and domestic violence. Eternia has spent the last few years touring the USA, Canada and Europe and building a strong fan base everywhere she plays.
Mexico City native Bocafloja has been producing socially conscious hip hop music since 1996. His remarkably soulful and meaningful music has garnered him global respect and he has collaborated with dozens of top international artists from South America, the Caribbean, Europe and the USA. He constantly tours the USA and Mexico.
Husband-wife duo The reMinders came together as two solo emcees with a common purpose. The mix topical themes of family, social justice and surviving the struggle with a hip hop-reggae music flavor. Aja Black is a top rated singer and emcee, while Big Samir rhymes in both English and French. Their unique sound and charisma has helped make them a crowd favorite throughout the midwest.
World renowned beatboxer and freestyle rhymer Baba Israel was brought up between New York City and Australia. Not only is he recognized internationally for his improv talents, but he has been a leader in hip hop theatre since its inception. He is currently the artistic director of Contact, a cutting edge theatre company in Machester, England. he has appeared in the films Freestyle, The Freshest Kids, Breathe Control and most recently “Beatboxing: the Fifth Element of Hip Hop” (playing Thursday night in Atlanta as part of the Atlanta Film Festival).
Hosting the event will be the incomparable Minster Server, spiritual leader of the Temple of Hip Hop. Opening for the show will be Atlanta emcee D.O. who recently released a global minded hip hop mixtape entitled “Global Soul” and collaborated with Bocafloja and several other international hip hop artists. New York’s DJ Boo (Juggaknots) will be on the decks during and between sets. Beatboxing legend – and American Beatbox Championship founder – Chesney Snow will perform as part of Eternia’s band.
