The second weekend of March is busy with global hip hop events in the USA.

INtlKnowneventOn March 8th 2013 Washington, DC, will get a taste of the Internationally Known series when Tropicalia, located at the corner of U and 14th, will resonate with the sounds of West African resistance. At 8 PM Y’en a Marre artists Thiat, Foumalade and the rap group Bat’hallions Blin-D along with local Senegalese diaspora talents Waterflow will hit the stage, backed by an 11 piece band direct from Senegal. DC-based DJ Plainview will be spinning music including songs from the new mixtape Internationally Known Volume 3.

Saturday night, March 9th, the Brooklyn Academy of Music presents Mic Check: Hip Hop from North Africa and the Middle East at 7:30 pm at the Peter Jay Sharp Building, BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. BAM brings together a host of intrepid revolutionary anthem writers—Amkoullel (Mali), Deeb (Egypt), El Général (Tunisia), Shadia Mansour (Palestine) —alongside more traditional musicians Brahim Fribgane and Yacouba for an evening of contemporary music born from radical social and political change.

If you are on the West Coast on Saturday, March 9th, you should be checking out the Quilombo Arte Los Angeles event at the Grand Star Jazz Club (943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, California 90012). The Quilomboa Arte collective will be performing including Bocafloja (Mexico), Hache St (Dominican Republic), Cambio (Central Bay CA), Jroz One (Los Angeles), Kiran Gandhi & Dj Ethos (concrete elephant), Dj Gazoo (subsuelo, tumbe) and Dj Ops (open mic format). $10 at the door $5 before 10pm.  For more info please go to: djethos.com

Sunday, March 10th, the Dakar 2 NY Global Hip Hop Exchange will take place at 9 pm at The Shrine in Harlem (2271 Adam Clayton Powell blvd – 7th Ave, New York). This performance will feature top Senegalese talent Fou Malade (with Bat Blin D), Thiat and and Baay Bia.
