IMPORT/EXPORT: CMJ’s Official International Showcase
CMJ Music Marathon’s Official International Showcase IMPORT/EXPORT: SOUND ART CLASH pops off this Friday, 19 Oct. 2012 from 7-11PM, at DROM in Manhattan (Avenue A & 6th). Put on in partnership with PR and social media firm The Bloom Effect, BANDxCity, a curated online resource for discovering emerging talent, and crossover creative consultant organization The City Firm, IMPORT/EXPORT brings together a genre-wide hybrid of international and New York acts with an evening of imaginative multi-media performance and audio-visual installation pieces.
Fiona Bloom (of The Bloom Effect), alongside established creative consultant and sound artist Miz Metro, crafted the showcase as an accompaniment to same-day featured panel, Galleries Are Venues Too! The Future of Hybrid Audio Visual Culture. The showcase will feature a range of artists with genres as diverse as their origins. Experimental audio-visual music group New Villager will be performing in between sets throughout the evening as a part of an all-night interactive mythology exhibit. Miz Metro will also be debuting Miz Metro 4.0, her new collaboration with Keith Shocklee of Public Enemy. With Shocklee on an MPC and turntables, Metro will use a 3-track loop pedal along with her vocal range to produce innovative sounds.
IMPORT/EXPORT performers include art/music group New Villager (Brooklyn, NY), bass-heavy, socially grounded MC Alesh (DRC), Tel Aviv urban artist Onili (Israel), vocal powerhouse Adrienne Mack-Davis (Brooklyn, NY), pop/rocktress Krissy Krissy (Brooklyn, NY), acclaimed rapper Kevin Lester (Singapore), hip-hop-art-pop maven Miz Metro (Manhattan, NY), ultra-breezy island MC Teff Mayweather (Barbados), Southeast Asia’s musical supergroup Project E.A.R. (Malaysia), and Dutch hip-hop crew Dope D.O.D (Netherlands).
